Sermon given by Stephen Price August 3, 2008 at Broadneck Baptist Church, Annapolis, MD. This week's scripture is Luke 10:25-37.
Continuation of Neighbor at the Side of the Road theme. Using a difficult passage, Stephen discusses the decision to look at other people from God's point of view. We see Jesus at first being less than welcoming to a Gentile woman asking for mercy. In doing so, Jesus shows the focus of the women not to be her troubled daughter - but that the woman is asking for mercy for herself as well. This is not a bad thing! This is an honest reaction to watching those you love suffer. We need to move beyond the outward mask we feel we need to project to the world. Be honest with ourselves and others - evangelism should be understood as "one beggar telling another beggar where to find food."
